History:
Stan Richards (ScouterStan) was born into a professional scouting family in the ’60s. He and his older brother went through Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts together. Stan achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in 1981. In 2002 Stan returned to scouting as his son wanted to join Cub Scouts in Orlando Florida. Stan quickly became the Cubmaster of his son’s Pack. When his son crossed over to the troop of his choice, Stan joined the district commissioner’s staff. Stan picked up lots of training and experiences along the way. As a Wood Badge goal, he posted his first video on YouTube in 2006. “7 Knots Every Scout Should Know” was the first, knot-tying video on YouTube and quickly became very popular. As illustrated in the Scouting Handbook, his son was the cameraman over his shoulder as Stan’s hands tied the knots.
Today Stan still lives in Orlando Florida and dedicates weekly time to Scouting as a Unit Commissioner. He is still active at the District and Council levels as a dedicated volunteer. He also regularly donates life-saving platelets, and blood products to OneBlood (Blood Bank).
